Every day is a good day to think about all the things we should be grateful for but we all get busy and forget to stop and reflect as often as we should. On days like World Gratitude Day (September 21), we made a point of stopping to think of things we could do to show our gratitude.
- Take 3 minutes every day to send someone a quick text to see how they are doing.
- Write a testimonial for a friends business or for a fellow team member on LinkedIn.
- Send a thank you note to a friend or family member that you haven’t checked in with for awhile.
- Leave a gift for your takeout delivery driver, trash collector or mail carrier.
- Carve out time for a little self-care. Book a massage, take a class or treat yourself to a special gift.
- Start a daily habit with your family to reflect on the best part of your day.
- Be thankful for our planet, start composting!
The benefits:
1. Improved health: “Researchers over the years point to lower stress, reduced pain and improved immune systems as a result of being thankful. Even better blood pressure and positive effects on the heart have been linked to gratitude.” (verywellmind)
2. Make more friends and grow stronger relationships: “Gratitude may make our romantic relationships closer and more satisfying, encourage us to feel more invested in friendships, and even cause us to be more helpful coworkers.” (Greater Good Magazine)
3. Greater job satisfaction: “Saying “thank you” seems like a commonplace, and yet science tells us that those words’ power is profound, both for the giver and receiver of thanks. In the workplace, grateful employees form stronger relationships, perform better, and tend to have greater job satisfaction.” (Forbes)
4. Become more patient: “Gratitude increases people’s self control, and it increases their ability to wait.” (Time)
Small changes, can have a huge impact. Thank you!
