Composting is key to zero waste

Evanesce is passionate about raising the awareness of the benefits of composting. Our landfills are overrun with plastics that will never decompose and food waste that is emitting harmful methane.
Switching to compostable products eliminates the need for single-use plastics and increases the percentage of food waste that is diverted from landfills.

We need to do more than just recycle

“Out of the 5.8 billion metric tons of plastic waste generated between 1950 and 2015, only about 9% of it has been recycled. The rest has been left to be incinerated, landfilled, or littered. On top of that, a more recent report from nonprofit The Last Beach Cleanup and advocacy group Beyond Plastics found that number to be even lower, with only 5% to 6% of the U.S.’s plastic waste converted into new products in 2021.”

“Compostable packaging is a proven way to collect more of the food scraps that are currently being landfilled or are contaminating recyclables, and instead drive the recirculation of biological materials”

Currently “more than 90 percent of food scraps in the United States go to landfill.

When thrown into landfill, food waste produces a large amount of methane. As food rots and degrades, it emits these harmful gases which are 25 times more harmful than carbon dioxide in terms of trapping heat in the atmosphere.

Did you know?

Paper alternatives to single-use serviceware and packaging may seem like an environmentally friendly solution but many of these products contain toxic PFAS. PFAS (AKA #ForeverChemicals) stay in people’s bodies for years & have been linked to cancer, thyroid disease, obesity, liver problems, and immune suppression. Major restaurant and grocery chains are being sued for the use of PFAS in their packaging as well.
